Mozambique: Road crash kills 15 in Zambezia province

24th Jul 2013

MAPUTO, (Xinhua): A mini-bus crashed with a speeding lorry loaded with logs in central Mozambique on Tuesday morning, killing 15 people and seriously injuring nine others, state media reported.

According to Radio Mozambique, the head-on crash occurred at 9: 00 a.m. local time (0700 GMT) in the district of lle in Zambezia province.

The mini-bus was reduced to wreck, killing the driver and 14 passengers on board. Nine other seriously injured have been rushed to Macuba city hospital, the report said, citing police sources.

Over speeding, bad overtaking, drink and drive, as well as fatigue are some of the main causes of car crashes in Mozambique. On Tuesday, the government reported that 700 people have died in car accidents so far this year.
