Philippines: At least one killed, 30 abducted in military-rebel clash in S. Philippines

MANILA, (Xinhua): A heavy firefight erupted near Zamboanga City in southern Philippines between the military and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels early Monday morning, killing at least two civilians, wounding four others, local media reported.

More than 300 suspected members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) had taken over 4 villages in Zamboanga City Monday. They took away more thant 30 people as hostages, reports said.

“Their target is the City Hall. They want to raise their flag of independence at the city hall,” radio station DZBB reported.
