KABUL, Afghanistan (AA): A total of 30 civilians were killed in two separate bomb attacks in two provinces of Afghanistan Sunday, officials said.

At least 20 civilians were killed and several others were injured in a suicide car bomb attack near a military base in Khost province Sunday evening, local officials said.

The base, located on the outskirts of Khost city, is said to be in use of Afghan and foreign forces in Afghanistan.

Provincial police chief Faizullah Ghairat said that all victims were civilians and included some children.

“The number of causalities may increase because some of the wounded are in grave condition,” Ghairat said.

Khost province is on the border with Pakistan.

Separately, at least 10 civilians were killed in a bomb explosion in Kapisa province, north of the Afghan capital of Kabul on Sunday, police sources said.

Despite recent talks between Afghan government representatives and the Taliban in Islamabad, the fighting in Afghanistan has escalated.
