MCB leader to step down today

London, The Muslim News OnLine:

Secretary General of The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB)will be stepping down today during its 9th Annual General Meeting in London.

Delegates from all the major UK national, regional and local affiliate organisations of the MCB, as well as other mosques and Islamic centres, will be sending delegates to the AGM.

The day's business will include the election of the new Central Working Committee, the Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General and Treasurer for the 2006-2008 term.

Having completed two consecutive two-year terms as its Secretary General, Sir Iqbal will - as per the MCB's constitution - be stepping down and a new Secretary General will be elected today.

MCB is an umbrella organisation of over 400 Muslim organisations in the UK and is the most representative body in the country.
