Hamas and Fatah have agreed a ceasefire immediately, according to reports from Palestine.
The new agreement, brokered by Egypt, comes in the wake of attacks by Israel in Gaza. A large number of Palestinians have been killed and hundreds injured in the fighting between Hamas and Fatah supporters. Even on the "Nakba" (Catastrophe) day, which is the annual day of commemoration by Palestinians of the anniversary of the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.
There will be a continuous monitoring of the ceasfire in the streets of Gaza.
Similar ceasfires in the past have failed. The last one was the Makkah Agreement in February to create a government of Unity which did not last very long. Email this story to a friend | Printable Version
