'Id message from PM Tony Blair
21-01-2005
"I am pleased to send my very best wishes to the British Muslim community as you celebrate Eid al-Adha and as many of you complete the annual Hajj.
Eid al-Adha commemorates the devotion and sacrifice of the prophet Abraham and is a reminder of the common heritage of different faiths. It is a time when Muslims around the world come together with friends and family. It's also a time when Muslims focus on those who are less fortunate than themselves.
The celebration of Eid gives us an opportunity to reflect on the positive impact that Islam has had in Britain and the rest of the world. We have benefited immensely from the contribution of British Muslims to this country's success, prosperity and culture. You are an integral and valued part of the fabric of our nation. That is why I welcome the increased participation of British Muslims in public life and will continue to work with you to build on this in the future.
With my best wishes for you and your family at this special time,
Eid Mubarak."
Rt Hon Prime Minister, Tony Blair, MP
