Dhaka, (Daily Star): Rescuers pulled out 30 more bodies from the debris of the Rana Plaza on Saturday when the Savar tragedy stepped into 18th consecutive day.

With the recovery, the death toll from the nine-storey Savar building collapse reached 1,088.

The bodies were recovered between 2:00am and 1:00pm, according to the sources of army control room set up in the disaster site.

Rescuers believe that more bodies are trapped inside the rubble as a number of people still remain missing since the country’s deadliest industrial disaster on April 24.

Besides, hope regained among the rescuers to get more people alive inside the debris of Rana Plaza after the miraculous rescue operation of Reshma who was pulled out alive and almost unhurt on Friday afternoon into the 17th day of the deadest building collapse.

With the recovery of Reshma, the young female garment worker, a total of 2,438 people have been rescued alive so far, according to the army control room source.

Rana Plaza, which housed several garment factories, collapsed after owners forced several thousand workers to work there even after cracks had developed on some pillars and floors the day before.

It is still unclear how many workers were there on that fateful day.
