DHAKA,  (Xinhua): At least three people were killed and scores feared dead after an eight-storied building at Savar on the outskirts of capital Dhaka collapsed on Wednesday morning.

“Three bodies have so far been recovered,” Niilufar Yasmin, a fire service official on the spot, told Xinhua.

She said the building in which there is a ready made garment factory, a bank’s branch and hundreds of shops, collapsed at about 9:00 a.m. local time.

Army personnel were called in to boost the rescue operation.

Local residents also clawed through piles of rubble in the hunt for survivors, alongside earthmovers and excavators.
