India: 10 dead, 35 hurt in bus accident on Pune-Satara road

4th Feb 2014

Satara, (PTI): At least 10 persons were killed and 35 others injured on Monday night when a tourist bus going to Gujarat fell off a bridge on the Pune-Satara road near the Khambatki Ghat.

Four other vehicles were also damaged on the highway, police said.

The incident occurred at around 10:30pm when the bus heading to Gujarat overturned, apparently while negotiating a sharp gradient.

When other vehicles stopped to rescue the passengers trapped in the bus, a speeding container dashed into four vehicles causing a pile-up.

The rescue operations are over and the injured were rushed to Khandala primary health center and a private hospital in Shirval, said Khandala police inspector Shridhar Jadhav.
