Nepal: 7 killed, over 20 injured in bus accident in far west Nepal

23rd May 2013

KATHMANDU, (Xinhua): At least seven people were killed and more than 20 injured when a bus skidded off the road some 50 meters down in Darchula district in the far western hills of Nepal on Thursday morning, local media said.

“The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained. The injured are being treated at local heath post and death toll could rise as rescue operation is still underway,” a local newspaper website quoted Kuber Kadayat, Darchula police chief, as reporting.

Police suspects that slippery and muddy condition of the road might be the reason behind the accident.

The ill-fated bus was on its way to Khalanga of Darchula from Mahedranagar, Kanchanpur district, about 515 km west of Kathmandu.
