PESHAWAR,  (Dawn): At least 14 militants were killed on Saturday as security forces backed by gunship helicopters thwarted a cross border militant attack on a checkpost near Pak Afghan border in Bajaur agency.

Military officials said that at about 0515 hours, early in the morning, a large number of militants from across the border attacked a group of Pakistani posts situated on Nao Top.

Pakistani troops responding to the attack repulsed it, meanwhile, gunship helicopters were also sent as reinforcement. During the gun battle and strikes one soldier died and two were critically injured.

The government had recently closed all illegal entry points on its border with Afghanistan, according to Federal Secretary of Defence retired Lt-Gen Asif Yaseen Malik.
