KARACHI, (The News) : At least 23 people including two women and six minors were injured when an improvised  explosive device (IED) meticulously concealed in a concrete construction block tore through a densely populated area of metropolis, Geo News reported.

According to sources, the IED struck near Sitara Bakery, one of the most frequented bakeshops in Mehmoodabad No.6 market area, around Wednesday midnight.

Earlier, DIG of Police (South), Dr Ameer Shaikh, had said that the IED was planted in a car, that was parked in the area for the last three days, however experts later found out the bomb was encased in concrete block.

The law enforcers and emergency responders have reached the spot, where a number of eateries, teashops, fruit-stalls, etc are located.

“The most of the injured were women and children as families hang out in the food street, which remains open to the customers till late at night”, sources told Geo News.

The injured were ambulanced to the nearby hospitals.

Sindh Rangers and police personnel jumped into action by cordoning off the area. Meanwhile a search operation was underway in search of more suspected IEDs.
