The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility Saturday for the twin bomb attacks, reports AFP.

Shahidullah Shahid, a spokesman for TTP, said that the attacks in Pakistan’s largest city were carried out in revenge for violence in Rawalpindi on November 15. He vowed further violence.

“It was to avenge the Rawalpindi incident, we will carry out more such attacks to avenge the killings,” Shahid told AFP by telephone from an undisclosed location.

Eye witnesses said two blasts occurred in the area near a tea stall and a milk shop, injuring over 40 people who were rushed to different hospitals.

Medics say seven of the injured succumbed to their wounds in the hospital. They said that women and children were also among the injured.

Rescue teams and heavy contingent of police and Rangers also rushed to the spot while the Bomb Disposal Squad was also called in.

A number of shops and vehicles parked near the tea stall were also partially damaged.

The area plunged into darkness after a KESC PMT tripped. However, the KESC personnel reach the site of the incident and restored the power supply.
