HANOI, (Xinhua): Typhoon Wutip, which hit central Vietnam in Monday afternoon, killed at least three people, injured 35 others and damaged over 95,000 houses in Vietnam’s central region.

According to the report of the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control on Tuesday, all the three deaths are in Quang Binh province while the other 35 injured people are from Ha Tinh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces.

The storm-hit localities also reported huge damages of houses and crops and other infrastructure works.

The strong wind and heavy rains severely impacted the national power lines, causing wide range power loss in central provinces.

As of late Monday evening, the Vietnam Electricity Group restored 20 percent of the power supply in the most hit Quang Binh province.

The committee also warned of rising water levels in most local rivers, causing high risks to the hydro-power reservoirs. Local authorities are trying to work on the consequences with the government’s financial support.

As of 1 a.m. local time on Tuesday (1800 GMT on Monday), Typhoon Wutip hung over the central region of Laos. In the next 12 hours, the storm is forecast to degrade into a tropical depression.
