UK: William and Kate leave hospital with nameless babe

24th Jul 2013

Prince William and his wife Kate have briefly addressed the press outside hospital in London, just over a day after their new son was born. The new prince, third in line to the British throne, remains nameless for now.

The duke and duchess of Cambridge emerged for the cameras on Tuesday evening, as mother Kate checked out of St. Mary’s hospital in central London. William was carrying the new prince in a bundle of blankets.

As if to contradict his father, the boy seemed to remain quiet despite a cacophony of noise around him. William said the newborn prince “has a good pair of lungs on him,” and also commented that he was a big boy, born at 8 pounds, 6 ounces (around 3.8 kilograms).

After a “very emotional” experience, the second-in-line to the British throne said he and Kate were “still working on a name” for their newborn. The parents had chosen during pregnancy not to learn the child’s gender.

The couple, who wed in April 2011, were set to return to their home in Kensington Palace from the hospital.

“It’s such a special time, any parent will know what this feeling feels like,” the duchess of Cambridge said, adding that her husband had “done the first nappy already.”
