Eleventh The Muslim News Awards For Excellence shortlist of unsung Muslim heroes

The coveted The Muslim News Awards for Excellence has published shortlist of unsung Muslim heroes of 2013. A diverse and independent panel of judges has brought us closer to what is promised to be an unforgettable celebration of Muslim talent and dedication to British society.

The Muslim News Awards for Excellence is a high-profile gala ceremony showcasing the best of British Muslim talent and is hosted by The Muslim News, the country’s largest ethnic minority newspaper. The newspaper continually works toward giving talented British Muslims the recognition they deserve for making positive contributions in their workplace and communities across the nation.

An independent panel of judges from all walks of life shortlisted nominations received from The Muslim News’ readership. This year’s panel includes Rushanara Ali MP, Consultant Pediatrician Dr Rumina Hassan-Ali, Executive Director of Citizens UK Neil Jameson, Operations Manager for Muslim Charities Forum Abdurrahman Mohammed Sharif and first Muslim headteacher of a secondary school Bushra Nasir.

“This awards ceremony has come to showcase the enormous contributions Muslims are making in diverse areas of life. We are here to celebrate the hugely impressive array of talented Muslim men, women, and young people who are contributing not only to their own community’s development but also to the improvement of wider society.”

Shortlisted nominees for The Muslim News Awards for Excellence 2013 have taken that extra step in standing as important role models in their niche. Nominees for The Ibn Battuta Award for Excellence in the Media include Justine Ali, organizer of the British Muslim Curry Awards and has been credited by Prime Minister David Cameron for raising the profile of British South Asians and their contribution to the food industry.

Ahmed Saleh is a nominee for Imams Hasan and Husayn Children’s Award for Excellence. Eight-year-old has won medals at world Karate/kickboxing championships and is the youngest black belt.

Other awards up for grabs include the Al Biruni Award for Excellence in Community Relations, Al Biruni Award for Excellence in Community Relations, Annemarie Schimmel for Excellence in Championing a Muslim Cause, Malcolm X Award for Young People, Imams Hasan and Husayn for Children, Faezeh Hashemi for Excellence in Sports, Sankore University for Excellence in Education, Fazlur Rahman Khan for Excellence in Science Ibn Sina Award for Excellence in Science, Ummul Muminin Khadijah Award for Excellence in Enterprise, Alhambra Awards for Excellence in Arts, and the Ibn Khaldun For Excellence in Promoting Understanding Between Global
Cultures And Faiths.
