Ramadan message from Rt Hon Sadiq Khan MP Member of Parliament for Tooting
Ramadan is a time to cherish our families, our friends and our faith. As we come together each day to break the fast, let us use this as a time for contemplation, and realisation of the suffering that so many others have to go through.
Let us also remember that fasting is one of the best means of building empathy towards those who are less fortunate than ourselves, be it the 100,000 people in London or the 1 million around the country who used a food bank last year, or those further afield such as families in war-torn Syria and earthquake survivors in Nepal. I am proud of our record for being the most generous community in the UK when it comes to supporting charities, and long may it continue.
Ramadan will be a great challenge for many of us this year, with the warm weather and long summer days, but I hope Ramadan is also a reminder of all things good
As we begin to fast, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a peaceful and blessed Ramadan.
I would also like to thank you for your support over the last five years. It was an absolute pleasure to be re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Tooting in May. As you will know I am standing to be Labour’s candidate for Mayor of London and I look forward to continuing to work with you.
Ramadan Mubarak.
